2024 Buick Electra SUV: Will a Buick Electra SUV Coming? The Electra brand name has been brought back to life by Buick for its lineup of electric cars, and the automaker has a slew of new models in the works for the years to come. Our cameras were able to capture an SUV in prototype form, and the vehicle seems to be production-ready even at this stage.
When Buick resurrected and trademarked the Electra name in both the United States and Canada a year ago, it was the first time the automaker mentioned its intentions to produce electric vehicles. I have to confess that it left me baffled since there were stories going around about many electric vehicle experiments that had different qualities but were all dubbed Electra.
After some time, Buick made it clear that the Electra is not an automobile but rather a subbrand for the company’s upcoming electric cars. Even further, Buick has registered the designations Electra E1 through E9 as trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in order to utilize them with a variety of all-electric Buick automobiles.
Although it seems to have a more conventional SUV profile, the crossover prototype seen in the photos is clearly inspired by the design of the Buick Electra-X concept vehicle. Although it is impossible to estimate its size without seeing it next to the Chevrolet Equinox EV or the Chevrolet Blazer EV, it is fair to say that there is not much of a difference between the three.
Despite this, it seems to be an exact replica of a different Buick EV prototype that was seen being tested in China around a month ago, indicating that the company has worldwide aspirations.
The images depict what seems to be a well developed crossover vehicle that has all of the hallmarks of a production model. It has only been a year since Buick brought back the Electra moniker, and it has only been two years since GM unveiled its Ultium technology; thus, the only thing we can do is speculate that this unnamed Buick Electra prototype is based on an already existent automobile.
Taking into consideration the body form and the fact that the door handles are flush with the body, I believe the Chevy Equinox EV is the better option.
The front fascia of this prototype displays Buick’s new brand identity, most notably the sleek LED signature, despite the fact that it is largely concealed by camouflage. Thin taillights that wrap all the way over the tailgate decorate the rear of the vehicle. A lovely touch is the high-mounted third brake light, which has a light signature that resembles the new Tri-Shield emblem that Buick has introduced.
Our information suggests that the first Buick electric vehicle (EV) model will make its debut in dealership showrooms as early as 2024; however, there may be more than one variant.
They will be equipped with Ultium technology much like all of GM’s previous electric vehicles, with the exception of the Chevrolet Bolt. Buick has said that it would completely switch over to electric vehicles by the year 2030, and it is not wasting any time in working toward this objective.

It has been disclosed by Buick that the Electra will not refer to a single vehicle but would instead serve as the brand name for an entire lineup of forthcoming all-electric SUVs. In 2025, we will witness the first vehicle in the Electra line, which will be an SUV built on the same platform as the new Cadillac Lyriq electric vehicle.
The design study of the Wildcat EV Concept that is seen here will have a significant impact on the exterior style of the first Electra. Even though the Wildcat is a sports car, Buick has said that all of its future products, including both electric and traditional gasoline-powered cars, would be sport utility vehicles (SUVs). The powertrain specifics and estimated driving range for the first Electra EV have not been disclosed; however, based on what we know about the Lyriq, we anticipate that it will feature an Ultium battery pack that is around 100 kWh in capacity and that it will have a range of at least 300 miles.
It is possible that single- and dual-motor propulsion systems, as well as front- and all-wheel drive variants, will be made available to customers. The first generation of the Electra SUV, according to Buick, will debut sometime in 2023. It is scheduled to enter production in 2024 as a model for the following year, 2025.
General Motors has lofty goals of surpassing Tesla in sales of electric vehicles by the year 2025; but, in order to achieve this goal, every brand under the GM umbrella will need to produce electric vehicles that are competitive in their own markets.
That includes Buick, which is one of the very few remaining GM brands that will transition to electric vehicles. The Electra, which is Buick’s first electric vehicle (EV), has the potential to put the brand on a far more promising path. Sales of Buick vehicles have been stagnant as of late, and the brand’s range is not particularly innovative.
At this moment, there are not many specifics available about the Electra, but judging by the Electra Concept, it will be a striking crossover vehicle that will be very different from the Electra full-size sedan that was manufactured until 1990.
It is interesting to note that the name Electra will be used to a series of future models as a kind of electric vehicle (EV) sub-brand; yet, given that buyers can’t seem to get enough of crossovers, we’d be astonished if the brand’s debut EV were anything other than a crossover.
What’s New for 2024?
The Electra will make the transition from concept to production, as Buick has announced. This is something that we had believed would happen ever since GM recently re-upped the trademark on the name.

After a sabbatical of thirty years, Buick has reintroduced the Electra, albeit in the form of an electric crossover SUV aimed specifically for the Chinese market. Since its debut in 1959, the Electra has served as the flagship model for the Buick brand. As such, the name has a great deal of significance, and it also happens to be an excellent fit for the sculptural and totally electric concept vehicle.
The only things that are similar between the Electra and modern Buick vehicles are the tri-shield emblem and the recognizable form of the grille. All four doors open in a scissor fashion, with the rear doors having reverse hinges to provide access to the cabin in a more open manner.
The powertrain makes use of GM’s Ultima battery technology, which enables the vehicle to go an estimated 400 miles on a single charge and has a maximum output of 583 horsepower. Even though General Motors claims that the Electra is only a concept and that it has no plans to be produced for the United States, it would be a terrible shame if the Electra were never to be seen driving on roads in the United States.
What’s The Price Of The 2024 Electra?
The fact that we anticipate the first electric vehicle from Buick to have dimensions comparable to those of the Cadillac Lyriq may make it easier to estimate its price. It is likely that the base price of the 2024 Buick Electra will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $60,000 MSRP, but it is feasible that the price of additional trim levels could be higher.
The Electra-X is the name of Buick’s latest regional concept vehicle, which was unveiled in China. It remains to be seen if the production Electra-X and Electra will be the same vehicle but with different names for the China and USA markets, or if the differences run deeper than just the names. Although the Electra-X concept appears to be much more production-ready than the original Electra concept, the latter is more likely.
Another fascinating possibility is a new trademark that we found for an Electra GS, which is most likely going to be a high-performance variant of the Electra that will be released in 2024.
Again, we are forced to rely on speculation, so this could either be a sportier version of the Electra with a distinctive body style or it could have a crossover body and more powerful motors, making it comparable to a potential Cadillac Lyriq V. Since we are forced to rely on speculation, this could be one of two things.
In addition to the Lyriq, potential competitors for the Buick Electra might include a wide range of vehicles, including the Chevrolet Blazer EV, the Audi e-tron, and the BMW iX. This, of course, is dependent on the market category that Buick chooses to compete in with the Electra.
