2024 Honda Prologue EV: Next-Gen Redesign & Release Date – When it comes to electrification of vehicles throughout the market right now, it’s more like the wild west than anything else since nearly every carmaker that isn’t Tesla is racing in and trying to get a piece of the action.
The downpour has brought about considerable mayhem due to its effects. Take, for instance, the planned Honda Prologue electric SUV, which is scheduled to hit the market in 2024 and is being co-developed by the Japanese manufacturer with the American rival General Motors for use of the latter’s Ultium platform and batteries. A Honda-GM mashup? Really.
There will be a lot of similarities between the all-new Chevrolet Blazer electric SUV, which was just released, and an upcoming Acura vehicle, which is expected to be released within the next couple of years.
But now is the time for the Honda Prologue to shine as the company unveils a new design language for the flagship model in its all-electric North American portfolio.
The combustion engine will continue to power the midsize Passport SUV for the foreseeable future, and the model will not be discontinued.
This is because the Honda Prologue is also a midsize SUV, albeit an electric one, so that it can provide clients with a selection of vehicles to choose from. When compared to that other midsize Honda SUV, the Prologue’s wheelbase is 10.8 inches longer, reaching a super-long 121.8 inches, and its overall footprint is 2.9 inches longer and 0.3 inch narrower, while the roof sits a significant 6.9-7.5 inches lower.
Additionally, the Prologue’s roof sits 0.3 inch lower than the other midsize Honda SUV (front- and all-wheel-drive Passports are different heights). The increased wheelbase ought to make it possible for Honda to deliver on its promise of a “spacious cabin.” All that can be said about the vehicle’s power and associated specifications at this time is that they will be updated “soon,” although the photographs show that all-wheel drive will be an option.
In an effort to accelerate the production of electric vehicles and reduce the amount of time needed for their creation, Honda “co-developed” the Prologue with General Motors.
In addition to this, Honda has proposed a plan to launch thirty new electric vehicles (EVs) by the year 2030, with the goal of achieving a worldwide sales volume of two million units; the company will transition entirely to the sale of zero-emission vehicles only by the year 2040.
The carmaker intends to begin sales of new cars based on its in-house e:Architecture EV platform in 2026, while a range of more “cheap” electric vehicles co-developed with GM is planned for 2027. Both of these initiatives are scheduled to take place in 2027.
A new lithium-ion battery production facility will also be established in North America by Honda. This is a shrewd move on Honda’s part in light of the recent Infrastructure Relief Act, which was passed by the federal government and encourages the domestic sourcing and production of electric vehicles as well as the resource requirements for these vehicles.
According to Honda, the Prologue EV project was given to a young team of outstanding designers based in Los Angeles. These designers seem to have come up with a new name to describe the way in which they designed the car, and they have dubbed it “neo-rugged.”
That translates for Honda to a body that is extremely smooth and undecorated, with proportions that are fairly squared off, and details that are kept very plain. The worldwide Honda e small EV design served as an inspiration for the designers of the broad approach, which has now been expanded out and reinterpreted across a package for a midsize SUV.
The relatively low ride height implies that it probably won’t be much of an off-roader beyond fire trails, gravel, or snow and sand, even if Honda boasts it is capable of adventures “within and beyond the city boundaries.” We assume this to be the case because of the very low ride height.
Inside, the Prologue has some switchgear that is reminiscent of the style used by General Motors (check out the gloss-black climate control buttons and the lock switches that are located around the door handles), but other than that, there isn’t much that suggests that anyone besides Honda designed this cabin.
For instance, in contrast to the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, the Prologue has a screen that is separate from both its gauge cluster and its central touchscreen. Both of these screens protrude from the dashboard like tombstones, which is similar to the practice that Honda employs currently (at least for its central displays) in its most recent models, such as the Civic, HR-V, and CR-V. Even in the photo above, it appears as though the Honda uses bespoke onscreen graphics and animations, not recycled GM stuff.
However, someone at Honda has intriguingly blurred out the left-side gauge pod behind the steering wheel. This was probably done to keep some battery, range, or other revealing trip information under wraps until it is ready for prime time.
The natural world served as a significant source of motivation for the team, which resulted in the incorporation of a large panoramic glass roof into the design in order to maximize the amount of available natural light.
Additionally, the North Shore Pearl paint color featured on the Prologue was designed to reflect the “natural beauty and colors near Lake Tahoe in California.” The “new fallen snow on the mountains” served as the primary source of inspiration for the interior color scheme of charcoal and light gray.
Instead of decorating a single capital letter “H,” the rear badging of the Prologue will consist of the word “Honda” spelled out in a new font in the middle of the light bar. On the tailgate, it is accompanied by a new “e:” branded emblem from Honda that is located over the “AWD” designation.
The CR-V Hybrid Will Be The Gateway Car To The Prologue
If you want to get into a Honda vehicle that is more efficient with gasoline, Honda does not want you to wait until 2024. Customers in select jurisdictions, including as California, have the option of signing a lease for a CR-V Hybrid for a period of two years while they await the arrival of the Prologue.
It will be a little bit too late for Honda to get into the mainstream electric vehicle market in the United States in the year 2024. The bZ4X is now available for purchase, and even EV-skeptic Toyota has one. The Prologue will be released in the same year that we receive electric versions of muscle vehicles manufactured by Dodge and the Jeep Wrangler.
But Honda has ambitious intentions to overtake its competitors by the end of this decade. In the year 2026, the first Honda e: Architecture electric vehicle will be on sale in the United States. Also, in 2027, Honda will release a new range of inexpensive electric vehicles that it has co-developed with GM.
Will The 2024 Honda Prologue Be Reliable?
A modified version of the Ultium platform used by General Motors will be used to construct the 2024 Honda Prologue. The Chevrolet Silverado EV, the Chevrolet Equinox EV, the Chevrolet Blazer EV, the Cadillac Celestiq, and the GMC Sierra EV will all make use of this platform.
Because the Ultium platform is used so often, Honda is able to profit from the lessons that GM has learned about recalls. After the Bolt EV recall, both the Bolt EV and the Bolt EUV should continue to provide the same level of dependability.
If Honda wants to build a name for itself in the market for compact electric SUVs, it is quite probable that the company would take precautions to eliminate the risk of similar battery fires. However, it is impossible to predict whether or not the Honda Prologue will be dependable.
