2024 Jeep Cherokee Redesign: Is The 2024 Jeep Cherokee Redesign? Jeep is a powerhouse brand that continues to develop and expand, introducing new three-row SUVs with the well-received Jeep Grand Cherokee L as well as the inclusion of the full-size 2022 Jeep Wagoneer and the more premium 2022 Grand Wagoneer.

These new SUVs are all part of Jeep’s expansion and growth. At the more compact end of the range, a tiny electric lifestyle crossover is now in development and will be available the following year.

But what about one of the first, the Jeep Cherokee, which debuted in 1974 and was one of the first vehicles to use the phrase “sports utility vehicle” in marketing materials? The once-popular Jeep Cherokee has, in recent years, had sales of just approximately 3,500 units per month, despite the fact that it is classified as a small SUV, which is one of the most popular vehicle categories in the world.

The company in Belvidere, Illinois, has been reducing the number of shifts it operates and the number of employees it employs as production continues to fall.

Consumers can’t be faulted for ignoring the Cherokee as a viable option. The current edition of this small SUV was introduced for the 2014 model year, making it one of the oldest compact SUVs currently available. According to the MotorTrend Buyer’s Guide rating, it is ranked dead last among compact SUVs.

The media and marketing excitement have been concentrated on just about every other model in the Jeep world, but the Cherokee has quietly soldiered on despite the attention. Even the 2022 Jeep Compass had a midcycle redesign, giving it the appearance of a baby Wagoneer and adding modern technology.

The question is, where is the love? Or is Jeep planning to phase off production of the Cherokee? We inquired about the future of the Cherokee by speaking with the Global President of the Jeep Brand, Christian Meunier, and the head of the Jeep Brand in North America, Jim Morrison.

No Plans To Drop The Jeep Cherokee

They claim that there is still a role for the Cherokee within the Jeep brand. In an interview with MotorTrend, Morrison said that the next generation of the Cherokee would be “larger and better than ever before.” This indicates that the segment is the most popular one in the United States.

But you shouldn’t get your hopes up just yet. According to Morrison, the sixth generation of the Jeep Cherokee will not be released this year. According to Meunier, it will have a significant amount of electricity once it finally receives the long-overdue upgrade.

The executives would not comment on whether or not the next generation of the Cherokee would continue to be available with a gasoline-powered internal combustion engine.

According to Jeep’s strategy for the electrification of its vehicles, the new tiny urban Jeep (with a new moniker) is scheduled to be released in the first half of 2023. This will be followed in 2024 by a pure off-road SUV (think Wrangler), as well as a family SUV.

Decline Of The Jeep Cherokee

In the meanwhile, sales of Cherokees in the United States dropped by 34 percent to less than 90,000 in 2021 and barely reached 10,000 in the first quarter of 2022, which is equivalent to one-fourth of sales for the same period in 2021.

The Cherokee is now mired in a downward spiral that is being fueled by the car’s increasing age as well as reduction in manufacturing. When there is a shortage of semiconductor chips, one of the first plants to be considered for temporary closure is the Belvidere facility.

This allows chips to be redirected to cars that generate a higher profit. Stellaris began the process of reducing the workforce in Belvidere a month ago, utilizing retirement packages and layoffs to eliminate both hourly and paid staff members. This came about as a result of the business getting rid of the second shift at the facility the previous summer.

Jeep Cherokee History

As a two-door, sportier variant of the Jeep Wagoneer, the first Cherokee ushered in the age of the sport utility vehicle (SUV) as a direct competitor to the Wagoneer wagon. The Jeep Cherokee shifted to a new platform for its second generation; the 1984 model was the first to switch from body-on-frame construction to unibody construction.

It is generally accepted that the boxy Cherokee was the first contemporary SUV to include four doors. The Cherokee was also essential in the development of the Jeep brand.

The third generation of the Jeep Cherokee was rebranded as the Jeep Liberty in North America in 2001, while other markets continued to use the Cherokee moniker. This decision was met with strong opposition from fans. When the Cherokee’s fourth generation was revamped in 2008, the Liberty moniker was retained for the vehicle.

The Cherokee nameplate was brought back to North America for the fifth generation in November 2013, and it has been on sale continuously since that time. Along with the return of the Cherokee nameplate came some minor updates, new powertrains, additional features and trims, as well as some controversy regarding the name, which occurred at a time when other Native American names were being retired from use in the business and sports worlds.

2024 Jeep Cherokee Redesign

This makeover is set to bring about a lot of changes, as we have just discussed, and the platform is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about these changes. The most recent sources indicate that the 2024 Jeep Cherokee will be the first model to ride on the new architecture that the business will be using, which will be termed STLA Large.

According to the information that we currently have, this won’t be an entirely new platform; rather, it will be a modified version of the Giorgio platform. This is the same architecture that supports the new Grand Cherokee, as well as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and the Giulia.

However, contrary to Giorgio’s RWD-based design, this new platform will reportedly feature FWD (forward-wheel drive), according to recent sources.

In any event, there is no question in our minds that the new Cherokee will improve in a variety of ways. It should be much lighter, and we have no doubt that its handling as well as its general performance will be significantly improved.

Exterior and Interior

When it comes to the external design, we do not anticipate significant changes in the general arrangement of the building. Although there is a possibility that the wheelbase could be lengthened somewhat, the total dimensions of the vehicle will probably not shift all that much.

The style is going to be updated as part of the changes. We do not anticipate anything revolutionary, but rather an approach to design that is more evolutionary, with a significant amount of influence drawn from the newly redesigned Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer models.

On the other hand, considerable changes should be brought to the design of the cabin, given that the one that is now used seems to be a little bit antiquated.

We anticipate far more advanced technological capabilities, in addition to more aesthetically pleasing materials and innovations. In addition to this, we hope that the new model will have a little bit extra capacity in the trunk.

2024 Jeep Cherokee Engines

The current model offers a choice between two different types of drivetrains; however, once the next version arrives, one of them will undoubtedly be removed. It goes without saying that we are discussing a tried-and-true 3.2-liter V6 engine, which is capable of producing something in the neighborhood of 271 horsepower.

On the other hand, the 2.0-liter turbo-four engine will most likely continue in its present configuration without major revisions, maintaining or slightly increasing its maximum output, which is now somewhere in the neighborhood of 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

A new transmission is one of the most significant modifications that we anticipate seeing. The existing nine-speed gearbox fails to impress in any way, so it won’t come as a surprise to us if something totally new is introduced, maybe even a unit manufactured by ZF or Aisin.

Because we also want to implement electrification, the plug-in hybrid vehicle is the first thing that springs to mind. There is also the possibility of an all-electric variant appearing in the future.
