2024 Jeep Gladiator: Will There be a New 392 Gladiator? For those of you Jeep Gladiator purists out there, we have some disappointing news to share with you. If you wanted the Jeep Gladiator to go quicker, get better at off-roading, or have better gas mileage, you may have to wait. These are all improvements that are in the works.
The Jeep Gladiator 392 is on the back burner
What do we want? A Jeep Gladiator 392, of course! When do we want it? As soon as possible! Fans of Jeep have made it quite apparent that they want the Gladiator to have a V8 engine that is more potent in terms of output.
Brandon Grimus, Senior Brand Manager for the Jeep Gladiator, said that Stellantis is aware of the demand for the vehicle. Following their experience with the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392, a large number of individuals are said to have expressed their desire to get a Gladiator 392.
The Wrangler 392 comes standard with a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine, which allows it to generate 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. It can go from zero to sixty miles per hour in roughly four and a half seconds!
However, at the New York International Auto Show, Jim Morrison, the Head of Jeep, said something that crushed hearts. He revealed with us that due to the fact that the volume of the Glaidator 392 is only roughly one-third that of the Wrangler, he is unsure as to whether or not we will ever see one.
What About The Gladiator Xtreme Recon Package?
However, you shouldn’t get too excited about the Jeep Gladiator Xtreme Recon package just yet. It would seem that Jeep is more intent on producing performance components for the Jeep Wrangle 4xe than than anything else.
In contrast, the Wrangler Xtreme Recon comes equipped from the factory with 35-inch tires, but it does not seem that this will be an option for the Gladiator. Jim Morrison, the head of Jeep’s Performance Parts business, has revealed that the company would soon begin selling wider tires and a variety of wheels.
Therefore, rather than placing an order for a whole set, you could be required to choose your own accessories separately. That’s not exactly a terrible thing, considering that making one-of-a-kind setups is kind of a Jeep thing.
However, the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is equipped with tires of 37 inches in diameter as standard, although Jeep has not yet made anything with tires of that size.
Jim Morrison revealed that he loved the Jeep Wrangler 4xe with 37-inch tires during the 2022 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab. He was ecstatic to report that there was not a single location that he could think of where the 4×4 couldn’t travel.
The previous year, Jeep made the announcement that it will be producing an electric version of the Gladiator pickup truck. When a prototype of the vehicle was spotted in June, the automaker finally confirmed the news after initially playing coy and denying the initial rumors about the vehicle.
On the other hand, it would seem that we may have a lot to wait, since the electric pickup truck is not anticipated to be released until the 2024 model year.
Although we aren’t exactly sure how this new truck will look, Motor1 hypothesizes that the electrified Gladiator will share some characteristics with the redesigned 2023 Wrangler. This is despite the fact that we don’t know exactly what this new truck will look like. Since not even the 2023 Wrangler has been released just yet, all we can do is wait and watch what happens.
Jeep has not disclosed whether the truck would be an electric vehicle (EV) or a hybrid of any form, but if the Gladiator 2024 follows in the footsteps of the Wrangler, that might also include the vehicle’s engine. The latest iteration of the Wrangler has not one, but two electric motors, in addition to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.
This results in 375 horsepower as well as 470 pound-feet of torque. We do not know whether the future Wrangler will keep the same engine as the current one or if Jeep will modify it in some way to make it better.
Where Is The Gladiator 4xe?
It seems like an eon has passed since we last saw some teaser shots of the Jeep Gladiator 4xe in all of its hybrid splendor, and it seems like it’s been that long. However, Jim Morrison did not provide any additional information about it. He did not clarify whether it would come or when it will come.
Muscle Cars and Trucks reports that Jeep has ambitions to incorporate electrified technology into every model in its inventory by the year 2025. Therefore, it is not out of the question that the Gladiator 4xe will make its debut before the year 2024 is through.
But wouldn’t you think that at this point, we’d have a better idea of what’s going on? Is there a problem with the Gladiator? We have not yet received any information on any revisions to the 2023 model. Following the release of the Jeep Wrangler’s mid-cycle redesign, there have been suggestions that the Gladiator would also get an update.
However, due to the little knowledge on fresh developments, we are experiencing some anxiety. We will keep an eye out for any new information regarding the Jeep Gladiator. It’s possible that nothing will change until 2024.
Jeep Gladiator 392 Xtreme Recon Packages Unlikely
Jim Morrison, the head of Jeep, recently gave an interview to Motor Authority at the 2022 New York auto show, and during the discussion, he didn’t pull any punches with regard to the facts that he shared about the company.
In response to a question about the possibility of a 392 V8 engine being installed in a Gladiator, Morrison replied unequivocally that he does not know whether “we’ll ever see a 392 in the Gladiator.” The executive claims that the Gladiator only accounts for about one-third of the volume of the Wrangler.
Although we are certain that there are further variables at play here (such as the French seizing control of FCA, governments becoming all-electric, and inflation), it is true that the Gladiator does not quite measure up to the take rate of the Wrangler.
Jeep Gladiator 392 Specs
In spite of the fact that the JL-series Wrangler has only been available to consumers for the past three years, the engineers at Jeep have made a significant number of changes to the underpinnings of the vehicle. There was an update for the 2021 model year, which included increased technological customization options, a V8-powered 392 model, a fat-tired Willys Xtreme Recon, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain for the 4xe.
We have read about more than one Gladiator shopper who wishes that the Wrangler’s 4xe powertrain would be fitted to the pickup either this year or next, but according to reports, this will not be the case in the foreseeable future. The Gladiator will get its turn for a light makeover the following year. The load-lugger is rumored to be adopting the changes that were made to the Wrangler and adding the rather popular PHEV drivetrain that serves the Wrangler as well as the 2022 Grand Cherokee. This makeover will take place in 2020.
The core of this propulsion system is a four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 2.0 liters that is turbocharged, and it is supplemented by a battery with a capacity of 17 kWh that powers two electric motors. In its current configuration, the whole system generates 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque; however, it is probable that these figures may shift following the update.
The Wrangler 4xe is rated by the EPA at 49 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent), which is by far the greatest of the Wrangler lot. It also has a range of 21 miles when driven only on electric power.
Jeep has said that it anticipates the Grand Cherokee 4xe would have a fuel economy of 57 MPGe. This is likely owing to the fact that the Grand Cherokee is more conducive to aerodynamics than the Wrangler, which is shaped like a shoebox.
