2024 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid: Everything We Know So Far – With the release of the CX-50 in the latter half of 2021, Mazda joined other manufacturers in selling a small SUV with limited off-road credential. Or, at the very least, they made it appear the part by blacking out the side cladding, fender flares, wheels, and trim on the vehicle.

But without anything to back it up other than aesthetics, the top-trim CX-50 Premium Plus that we just reviewed provides nothing to separate it from its CX-5 sister other than design that is both more forceful and voluptuous.

Because it is built on a separate platform but has proportions that are comparable to those of the CX-5 both inside and out, the CX-50 does not provide a discernible improvement in the amount of space available for passengers or goods. It does, however, inherit some of the positive features that we enjoy in previous Mazda vehicles, such as solid road handling, snappy steering with a nice feel, and a well-appointed, upmarket cabin. These attributes are inherited from the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

Even though it has standard all-wheel drive with additional driving modes that include an option for off-road travel, the 20-inch street tires on the CX-50 that we tested really weren’t happy venturing very far from the pavement, despite the fact that the exterior has been reshaped and some cosmetic changes have been made.

However, with its smaller, more aggressive tires and other extra equipment, the Meridian trim level has the potential to reverse this perception. If you aren’t taken with the appearance of the CX-50 and the additional feature available, including Mazda’s first panoramic sunroof, you could be better suited with a CX-5, which is priced lower.

The new alliance between Mazda and Toyota is already being put to good use by Mazda. The 2022 Mazda CX-50 will be the first vehicle to be manufactured in the United States at the combined Mazda Toyota Manufacturing factory in Huntsville, Alabama. It will enter the market the following year with a tough exterior design, a stylish interior, and two different engine choices to choose from.

The standard powertrain for the CX-50 is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with naturally aspirated combustion, although an optional 2.5-liter engine with turbocharging is also available. Power numbers are not going to be discussed till a later time.

Each of these powertrains is accompanied by a standard all-wheel-drive configuration and a six-speed automatic gearbox. The CX-50 will reportedly be offered in the future by Mazda in a variety of electric and hybrid configurations, according to the automaker.

Model Preview

Following its introduction in 2023 as a completely redesigned vehicle, the Mazda CX-50 will return in 2024 as a carryover model. The CX-50 rides on the same platform as the smaller CX-30 and the larger Mazda3, which is also used by the Mazda3. The larger CX-50 is available concurrently with the more small CX-5.

In 2024, the exterior of the CX-50 will look exactly the same as it does on the model that is now on sale. Mazda’s collection of SUVs includes some rather robust options, like the CX-50. It has bumpers that are substantial, sturdy body cladding, and fender flares that are quite noticeable.

The front fascia of the SUV has an angular trim piece that contains the grille, which is a tiny oval grille that is positioned between two thin headlights. The headlights lead straight into the trim piece. At the back, distinguishing characteristics include dual exhaust outlets, oversized taillights, and fake vents located behind the rear fenders.

When compared to Mazda’s previous sport utility vehicles (SUVs), the CX-50 seems to be more tough and truck-like. On the dashboard, which is otherwise designed in a squared-off fashion, there are many huge square vents. The display for the infotainment system is set deep into the dashboard, almost in line with the windshield.

The center console has a row of physical controls that are laid up in a way that makes them simple for the driver to reach. A tradition of producing cars that are enjoyable to drive is reflected in details such as the circular steering wheel with three spokes and the uncomplicated instruments seen in Mazda vehicles.

The 2024 Mazda CX-50 comes equipped with five seats that are covered with towels, and it has the capacity to carry up to five people. There is a choice of chairs that are easier on the environment for both the driver and the passenger.

The front and back seats of the chairs are heated, and the chairs’ fabric is made of leather. The back seats of the CX-50 are equipped with child safety seat connectors called LATCH. The anchor for the tether while in use.

It’s possible that some people may find it challenging to operate the infotainment system in the CX-50 since the touch screen hairs shift about when the car moves.

It is necessary to initially push the control button in order to operate an automobile, which might be challenging. Standard features include automatic temperature control, six or ten speakers, satellite music, USB plug-ins, a large storage compartment for personal items, rain-sensitive wipers, and GPS navigation.

The latest iteration of the CX-50 has a display that is 8.8 inches in size. There are eight audio speakers, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a wireless version of both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay included in the infotainment system.

A monitor with a size of 10.25 inches, a wireless charging pad, navigation, 12 audio speakers, two more USB ports, HD Radio, and satellite radio are all available as optional extras. It is anticipated that the CX-50 will continue to provide these features far beyond the 2024 model year.

We anticipate that the 2024 CX-50 will continue to be available with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. This engine will likely continue to be standard equipment.

There will be an option for a turbocharged four-cylinder engine displacing 2.5 liters. The turbo engine will have 256 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque at its disposal. It will come standard with all-wheel drive as well as an automated gearbox with six different gears.

Forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam assist are some of the standard safety features that come standard on the CX-50.

Parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, traffic sign recognition, a head-up display, traffic jam help, and automated emergency braking in reverse are among the available safety features.
