2024 Nissan GTR: Will Nissan Make An R36 GT-R? The Next GT-R will draw its inspiration for its exterior design from flamboyant cars. However, the R35 is still around, despite the fact that it is becoming older and more expensive. It seems that discussions over the R36 are still ongoing, and it is unclear if Nissan intends for the vehicle to be hybrid or totally electric.

The director of the GT-R program, Hiroshi Tamura, gives some suggestions as to where the next journey will be for the GT-R at the present.

Despite the fact that Tamura-san did not reveal a great deal at this time, it is very obvious that we will not be seeing a production vehicle for a good number of years. Therefore, does this indicate that the GT-R will be discontinued after production of the R35 is terminated? Certainly not in every case.

The Nissan GT-R R36, the company’s next-generation GT-R, is currently in development at Nissan. There are a lot other companies that compete with Nissan in the market for high-performance automobiles, so it’s possible that Nissan isn’t even near the top of the list.

They do, however, come from a long and illustrious history of racing cars, which has been an important source of motivation for several groups of auto enthusiasts.

It has been claimed that Nissan has ceased receiving orders for the GT-R in Australia, which strongly suggests that the R35 generation will be phased out soon. The fact that a successor has not yet been built is disappointing news; nevertheless, a source from Japan claims that the next-generation GT-R has reportedly only started the early stages of development.

Since it first came off the manufacturing line all the way back in 2007, the R35 is one of the oldest automobiles that are still being manufactured today. It has, more or less, been in use for the last 15 years, and there have been several rumors about its successor. At first, it was reported that Nissan was developing a hybrid or plug-in powertrain that would make use of the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that Infiniti was already using.

I suppose there were even patents. However, a recent claim that was published on the Japanese automotive news website Best Car Web indicates that the R36 Nissan GT-R will be heading in a completely different route. They claim that it will be a monster battery electric vehicle (BEV) that utilizes a solid-state battery system with the “strongest AWD in the World.”

What came before the Nissan GT-R R36

The current generation of the GT-R is getting up there in age. The R35 was first unveiled by Nissan in 2007, which is a full 14 years ago. Even though Nissan has made a significant number of improvements to the vehicle over the years, the R35 is starting to show its age.

In point of fact, Nissan has already discontinued the R35 in Australia since it is no longer capable of meeting the requirements for safety that are in place in that country. Despite the fact that this was disappointing information for GT-R lovers in Australia, it was obvious that this was not the end of the road for the GT-R.

In point of fact, Nissan made it quite plain to the people who supported the brand in Australia that although this would be the end of the R35, it would not be the end of the GT-R series. The automaker did not provide an official statement on the Nissan GT-R R36 at the moment; however, they did so not too long after.

What Will be Under the Hood of this Nissan?

In a recent interview with Autocar, Nissan’s CEO finally put to rest eight years’ worth of speculation by confirming the automaker is, in fact, hard at work on the R36. In point of fact, Nissan was laboring over the development of an entirely new platform for the automobile.

It should be obvious why that is the case. There is a lot of formidable competition for the GT-R, and Nissan hopes that the R36 will be able to outperform them.

Indeed, Nissan’s CEO remarked, “Our objective is quite clear: we want the GT-R to be the fastest vehicle in its class. It is necessary for it to possess the track. In addition to this, it has to compete in the field of sophisticated technology.”

Regarding the R36’s potential for power, very little information is currently available. The Chief Executive Officer of Nissan has said that the R36 may not need an electric powertrain in order to achieve the performance targets that have been set. As a result of this, a powertrain that is either totally electric or hybrid may be viable, although neither one is verified at this time.

Having said that, in light of the fact that several nations and regions are planning to outlaw gasoline-powered vehicles in the very near future, the R36 could, at the at least, need to be a hybrid vehicle. This may indicate that the R36 will be equipped with a hybrid engine of a lower or higher level than the one it now has.
The result that is anticipated.

Even though we do not know for certain what is housed inside the engine compartment of the GT-R R36, there are some aspects of the expected vehicle’s performance that we may predict.

First and foremost, the forthcoming car should have at least the same amount of power as the R35’s twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine, which generates 600 horsepower.

As automakers continue to develop cars that are less reliant on gasoline, it is becoming more likely that the R36 will be a hybrid. It is possible that a hybrid engine influenced by Nissan’s existing portfolio of electric vehicles (EVs) and the expected V6 engine might result in a strong engine with 800 horsepower and peak speeds more than 200 miles per hour.

Next-gen GT-R Developed in America

The all-solid-state battery pack is the most important innovation that went into the production of this next-generation battery-electric GT-R. It has been reported that Nissan is working on the technology in-house with the assistance of research partnerships with NASA and colleges in the United States.

It would seem that the next-generation Nissan supercar will be developed in the United States in the majority of its whole. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that the majority of Japanese automobile companies base their research and development as well as their manufacturing in North America. Acura’s NSX and Integra are two excellent instances of well-known foreign automobiles that are now primarily sold on the local market.

In spite of this, Nissan is planning to install a production trial line at the Yokohama facility in the year 2024. Although this may have repercussions for other electric vehicle types, solid-state batteries are not projected to be commercially available until 2028 at the earliest.

New Nissan GT-R R36 Design

It is reasonable to anticipate that the Nissan GT-R R36 will maintain its status as a performance brick that defies the laws of physics. Keeping this in mind, these renderings depict how it may potentially seem.

You may anticipate a return to the blocky dimensions and proportions of the R35. You’ll notice that these photographs have a lot of influence from the limited-edition Italdesign Nissan GT-R 50, which is another source of potential motivation for this project. Particularly in the roof, which may adopt the two-tone look of the Italdesign.

Given that it is a GT-R, you can be certain that the car will include its signature four taillights. However, rather of taking on the form of plain circles, a more contemporary and intricate rounded shape may arise.

Tamura-san believes that the R35 will still be going strong in 20 years, based on the fact that the R32, R33, and R34 generations of the Skyline GT-R are practically exactly the same vehicle beneath. It is possible that the manufacturing run of the R35 will be prolonged enough to allow it to be sold before the R36 arrives in dealership showrooms.

The only concern that should be raised for Tamura-san, who is 58 years old, is that it will adhere to the mandatory retirement age of 60 years. Before passing the torch to the next person in line, he will make a choice early on in the subsequent life of the automobile.

When exactly will the GT-R of the next generation be available? A study in 2015 projected it around 2023 or 2024. It is still unknown where, on the spectrum between a concept vehicle and a car ready for full production, the new GT-R will be placed.
